U2 to perform in SA
One of my all time favourite bands is set to rock SA and I'm extremly excited. There's a worldwide buzz on social networking site Twitter sparked by the dates, released yesterday, of super band U2's latest world tour.
The 22-time Grammy Award winners revealed that South Africa is part of their U2 360 Degrees tour. The group will perform at Johannesburg's FNB stadium on February 13, and at the Cape Town stadium on February 18.
The show will be very different from their last stop in South Africa in 1998 because their stage now revolves so that the entire stadium can get an eyeful of the action.
An estimated crowd of 50000 is expected to attend both concerts.
5FM DJ Koula tweeted about the U2 concert saying: "Experienced the magic of the U2 360 tour in Dublin last year. Highly recommended!"
Another U2 fan and Twitter user, Jared Crosby, went online to say: "Finally! U2 are coming to South Africa. Can't wait!"
The stage, designed by Willie Williams, who has worked on 10 productions for the band, was built by a Belgian company, Stageco. It is 24.7m high and can support up to 180tons.
The steel stage also includes a cylindrical video screen, which weighs 54tons. The entire set takes four days to build and the screen takes 12 hours to erect.
Tickets will be available from Saturday from R161 to R696.
Can't wait!
