Pink hope

If, like my ignorant self, you still thought breast cancer is the nasty gremlin that comes to leave you boobless and stripped of your femininity then you can exhale a sigh of relief coz that may have happened 40 years ago, but has since decreased significantly thanks to the doctors and researchers who work tirelessly at finding alternative forms of treatment. A mastectomy (the removal of all or part of the breast tissue) has thankfully been replaced by less defeminising procedures, including chemo therapy and radiation therapy and is now the very last option to remove cancerous cells.

Contrary to popular (and understandable) belief, breast cancer, fortunately or unfortunately, isn’t exclusive to the female population but affects both men and women of all races! Stats reveal that currently 1in 8 women (13%) will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in her lifetime compared to 1% of the male population. On a lighter note though, it’s confirmed that this year alone there have been over 2.5million survivors in the USA, unfortunately the SA Health Department fails to yield such results, so there’s definitely hope.

October has been christened the Pink month worldwide to help spread the message: we can beat this! So to show your support on the 29th of October, buy your pink ribbon and don it proudly where errbody can spot it! There’s also an assortment of goodies you can order from pinkdrive, to help raise funds with the organisation. Here’s a peak...

I'm usually not one for pink, but if it's for a cause as relevant as this I don't see why I shouldn't be pretty in borrowed pink! Guys, this is an AWESOME excuse to wear pink, nobody will judge you...(much)!

Let there be style...
