Alcohol cheaper than water in New Zealand

 

New Zealand has become somewhat of utopia if this is true, I have a real affliction towards booze and I'm just wondering whilst I'm sitting at work what the hell I'm still doing here, I'm sure they can organise me a transfer to New Zealand because it seems that alcohol is now cheaper than water.



Alcohol in New Zealand is now cheaper than bottled water, says health researchers.

Researchers from Otago University's Wellington campus reported that cask wine was readily on sale for the equivalent of 62 New Zealand cents (R3.10) a standard drink, beer at 64 (R3.20) cents and bottled wine at 65 (R3.30)cents.

That was cheaper than bottled water - at 67 (R3.50) New Zealand cents for 250 millilitres, an associate professor of public health Nick Wilson and fellow researcher Fiona Gunasekara said in a report published in the New Zealand Medical Journal.

"Our analysis suggests alcohol is now probably the cheapest recreational drug in New Zealand and has become increasingly affordable, at the same time as concern about binge-drinking culture has grown," Wilson said.

He urged the government to raise taxes on alcohol to discourage consumption by young people.

It only makes economic sense to drink beer!
