Golden Globe Winners
The 68th annual Golden Globe awards were hosted by the one of the funniest men out here Ricky Gervais and you might be asking who gives, well the Golden Globes are a litmus test for the OScars so they bare quite a lot of wight where Hollywood is concerned. List of winners after the jump:
TV Winners
Boardwalk Empire and Glee were the big winners for the television categories. Boardwalk Empire took home Best TV Series Drama as well as Best Actor for Steve Buscemi. Glee took home 3 awards last night including Best TV Series Comedy and a Supporting Actress award for the hilarious Jane Lynch. A surprised Chris Colfer picked up Best Supporting Actor for his work in Glee, Colfer’s genuine reaction to the win and acceptance speech was one of the highlights of the evening (video). Laura Linney took home the prize for Best Actress in a Comedy for her work in The Big C and a stunned Katey Saga (otherwise known as Peggy Bundy) took home the same award in the drama category for Sons of Anarchy.
Another favorite moment of the night was Kaley Cuoco’s excitement when presenting the award for Best Actor in a Comedy Series to her The Big Bang Theory co-star, Jim Parsons (video). In the mini-series categories, Clair Danes took home Best Actress for TempleGrandin and Al Pacino Best Actor for his work on You Don’t Know Jack.
Surprisingly shut out of any wins this year were previous big winners, Dexter, Mad Men and 30 Rock which sadly meant that we didn’t have the privilege a Tina Fey acceptance speech.
Film Winners
The Social Network was the big winner in the film portion of the night taking home Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Motion Picture. Not surprisingly, they were not given any acting based awards. Natalie Portman took home Best Actress for Black Swan and made a cringe-worthy acceptance speech dedicated almost entirely to her baby daddy and new fiancĂ© (video). Colin Firth deservingly won Best Actor for The King’s Speech and Christian Bale for Best Supporting Actor for The Fighter. Melissa Leo took home Best Supporting Actress for her role as Marky Mark and Bale’s mom in The Fighter.
In the comedy category, Annette Bening took home Best Actress. Paul Giamatti won for Best Actor for his role in Barney’s Version based on the book by Montreal author Mordecai Richler. Giamatti praised Canada and Montreal in his acceptance speech instantly becoming the belle of the ball in the Canadian Press.
