The first amount of controvery surrounding Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma started when her department spent riduculous amounts of money on Sarafina 2 the stage play in 1995 when the Department of Health awarded a R14.27 million contract to internationally acclaimed playwright Mbongeni Ngema to produce a sequel to the musical, Sarafina, about AIDS that would reach young people, seems as though she's got a thing for the arts and recently appeared on Generations but only that this time Generations didn't pay her, she paid Generations R3 million.
MINISTER of Home Affairs Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma paid about R3 million for the 10-minute cameo role she played on Generations.
Dlamini-Zuma made a surprise appearance on the SABC’s prime-time soapie in July this year.
Millions of viewers thought she was following in the footsteps of her daughter, Gugu Zuma, who plays the love-struck Lesedi Moloi in Isidingo.
But while Gugu is getting paid for her role, her mother parted with millions for hers.
"I get paid for my acting, moms got it twisted" |
During her stint in front of the cameras, Dlamini-Zuma explained to Sarah the things she should do to divorce her dead husband.
This because Sarah, played by Delisile Malinga, wanted to get hitched to Khapela (Mike Mvelase) but couldn’t because Home Affairs records showed she was still married to her dead husband.
The news comes in the wake of media speculation that government intends to support the new newspaper The New Age and the financially embattled SABC through adverts.
"So glad we got divorced" |
Government has severed ties with media buying companies who have been negotiating advert prices for and on behalf of government.
An employee of a media buying company, whose name we cannot disclose, says Home Affairs could have paid less to the SABC had they used their services.
“Even R2m is a lot considering that we still have so many people living in poverty,” he says.
SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says: “Government is our client and we agreed with what they needed and charged them because the communication plan comes from them (Home Affairs) not from us.
“They are one of our big clients and we negotiate a better deal for them, like we do with all our big clients,” he says.
Home Affairs spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa confirms Dlamini-Zuma paid for her cameo role but says the funds didn’t come from government coffers.
R3 million is a shit load of money to pay for a 10 minute cameo on Generations, but than again Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma would also have to pay me before I put her anywhere near anything I shoot cause she might just break the lens...
