Zoo Lake Bowls Club to close down in February

From our posts you should know these here bloggers loves to get their drink on, and nothing beats a cheap drink, and they don't come much cheaper than Zoo Lake. Sadly this institution, will cclose it's doors in February, "sad I know." More deets afetr the jump...

I've lost myself here many a times

The club's nine-and-a-half-year lease expired in August.
"They gave us three months' notice but we are in negotiations with them," said club chairman Rhona van Zyl. "We want to be there until they allocate the tender."
Van Zyl said that if the bowling club were forced to vacate the property in February it would fall into the hands of vandals.
"The greens will be messed up and it will take hundreds and thousands [of rands] to fix them. Vagrants will move into the building and trash it."
Van Zyl said the club grounds were donated to the people of Johannesburg in 1904.
"It is zoned as a public space and the council is just a trustee. It will remain with the people of Johannesburg forever. It will remain a bowling club. It can't be rezoned or sold."
The club is part of Herman Eckstein Park, which also accommodates Johannesburg Zoo and two museums.
Anselm McLean, president of the Johannesburg Bowls Association, said he was not worried that the lease had come to an end.
"All municipal clubs have a 10-year lease. A whole lot of clubs have had their lease renewed in the past two years".
