Whites earn 7.7 times more than blacks

 

I'm not going to say that I'm even remotely surprised by the fact the average income of whites is nearly eight times higher than that of blacks, the SA Institute of Race Relations said. More after the jump:

"... white per capita personal income in 2008 was 7.7 times higher than that of Africans," the institute said in a statement on its latest South Africa Survey.

In the same year it was 4.5 times higher than that of coloureds, and 1.5 times higher than that of Indians.

In 1970 whites were earning 15 times as much as blacks. It has since fallen from this peak.

In 1917 white income was 11 times higher than that of blacks.

 

 
The data, from the Institute for Futures Research at the University of Stellenbosch, shows the ratio of white income to coloured income is the same as it was in 1917.

The per capita income of Indians and coloured people was the same in 1917.

However, since then Indian income has grown at a higher rate than that of any other race group.

 
"‘These trends are confirmed by data we have from other sources in the Survey," said Lucy Holborn of the institute's research department.

At constant 2000 prices, between 1993 and 2008 white per capita income rose from R46,486 to R75,297.

That of Indians rose from R19,537 to R51,457. Coloured people went from R12,911 to R16,567. Income for blacks rose from R5073 to R9790.


"While average incomes still reflect the disparities between race groups that existed during apartheid and before, we are beginning to see a narrowing of these differences," said Holborn.

   

Its all good and dandy that the gap is slowly diminishing and I guess that transformation doesn't happen overnight but where salaries are concerned I tend to disagree because as an employer you know how much your employees get paid and it just means that you couldn't be bothered with rectifying that discrepancy. Yes! It is a fact that a majority of the cooperation's in the country are still owned predominantly by the minority white populus of the country.

I'm not shifting any blame here because as a black person with a decent enough education to pick up a newspaper and find out what grand plans our current President has for  public enterprise you would have noticed that the drive has shifted from giving people jobs but rather for the black population to create jobs for themselves and this obviously involves starting SME's and such so that we can be in charge of how much we earn and pay each other, though I doubt any white worker would get as short changed as the general black employees under white employers but would be remunerated as equally as their black counterparts within the very same black owned cooperation.

Once again as blacks we'll be complaining of the same crap as usual, as opposed to spending all that time investing it in complaining rather get your black ass of the chair and be the boss of your own destiny, and that includes your pay check!
