Health Minsiter wants to tackle SA's high salt diet

To many people salt is just a condiment but for me its the most essential item before and after preparing a meal, I'm not talking little sprinkles but loads of salt. Turns out that South Africa's Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi wants to decrease the salt content in yours and mine processed foods. More after the jump:

“[The] South African diet has been shown to be very high in salt,” Motsoaledi said in Parliament yesterday.

“The desired amount of salt for your body is known to be 4g to 6g per day, but in our country it is up to 9.8g.”

He said most of South Africans’ daily salt intake came from processed food, rather than being added at the table.

The legislation is likely to come as a blow to the food industry, which prefers self-regulation, Business Day reported.

While salt makes the food more tastier, it also takes its toll on health. It drives up high blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

The best thing about processed food is how wonderful it tastes and limiting its salt content is going to make it taste bland, who the fuck wants to live forever? Bring on the salt!
